The WAPP is an initiative of the poets, Odoh Diego Okenyodo and Ayo-Ayoola-Amale, both directors of the Accra- and Abuja-based Splendors of Dawn Poetry Foundation (www.splendorsofdawnpf.org). They are a crop of poetry activists who have published works in a number of books and anthologies, and have a vision of expanding opportunities for lesser known poets.
However, outside the role of the founders, a steering committee that administers the prize is being constituted to represent the entire West African region. The steering committee will be responsible for selections of judges and establishing criteria for each edition of the annual award.
